The Adventure Begins!

“I’m so excited, and I just can’t hide it!” … sang the Pointer Sisters.

Still you will be pleased to know that I am not going to lose control even if I like it.

I woke up this morning at 0500 and couldn’t get back to sleep because today’s the day we are, finally, off to the other side of the world.

I am writing this sitting in a first class carriage (there’s posh!) on the way to our hotel at Heathrow. The trip has been months, if not years, in the planning. The number of times we have had to deal with a grumpy daughter who has kept asking;

“When are you going to come and visit us?”

Our excuse that it was her decision to move halfway around the world has finally worn out and last August we popped into Trailfinders to arrange five weeks ’down under’.

Wendy is excited too!

We got back from France on Friday evening (Apologies to those of you who were hanging on the edge of their screens, wondering if we would make it out of snowy Les Gets; thanks to the admirable Les Gettians, the roads were fine.) and since then it has been all about the packing. There was no need for any laundry, as nothing that we wore in the Alps will be suitable for Singapore and Australia. At the moment the temperatures there are between the mid 20s and the mid 30s. The trickiest decision is ‘do I really need to take a pair of long trousers?’

For those of you who haven’t heard this already, the plan for the next couple of weeks is to fly to Singapore tomorrow, spend 3 days in Singapore, fly on to Sydney for four days and then fly to Brisbane to meet up with Katy (Anthony won’t be there, but don’t worry we’ll meet up with him in time for the Commonwealth Games). The three of us will then fly on to Cairns to spend Easter at the Great Barrier Reef.

So now I have whetted your appetite or bored you rigid as to what escapades and antics Wendy and I might get up to in the coming weeks I will sign off and join Wendy in a little spot of meditation before we get to the ‘Big Smoke’.
