So the chief blogger is having a night off and it’s the return of the ‘lady in the van!’
I’ve been allowed this responsibility as today didn’t quite live up to expectations because Howard wanted to take me back to Lake Bodensee as it was full of good memories from his time fireball sailing. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay on the planned campsite due to dog restrictions. We do seem to have chanced upon the most facility-laden site we’ve ever been to instead.
Today was spent on catching up with chores and this morning I bored Howard to death by raving on about the washing amenities. It began with negotiating the washing machine, which entailed setting your programme and then putting in appropriate coins according to the amount of electricity used. Surprisingly this amounted to only 1 euro 20 cents- a bargain by all other Swiss prices! Very different to the French standard, of 3 or 4 euros per load.
After retrieving the completed washing I then discovered a room with indoor washing lines and not only that, but a de-humidifier too and all for FREE!! A great win, on a very “iffy” weather day.
I don’t think we’ve ever stayed on a site with complete kitchen/TV, dog shower room, lounge area with sofas, pool/playroom and private bathrooms all of which are included in the price. Good old ACSI discount card.
Whilst I raved on about facilities Howard spent the morning planning ahead and we’ve now booked a ferry for the end of May to take us across from Croatia to Italy as this will save us about 2 days motoring. He also checked out the next stage of our route to Salzburg tomorrow.
With all chores completed we set off with emergency umbrellas at the ready towards Ramshorn about an hours walk away. We found the town to be rather disappointing as out of season on a grey Monday it was pretty dead.
Our consolation after 2 hours brisk walk was that we returned to find the de-humidifier had done its stuff and our washing was dry. After, a quick free ironing session I feel our day has been summed up with an amazing site but not much else to rave about so it isn’t somewhere we’d be thinking of returning to in a hurry!!
As I write this its pouring with rain so we haven’t been able to appreciate the fantastic Lake Bodensee or reminisce over the memorable time Howard and Andy spent here with a week of no wind and very little sailing but great international competitions in volleyball and superb Swiss hospitality.
