Gudbuy to Spane!

Friday 31st May

“Gudbuy to Spane, Gudbuy to Spane”, as Noddy Holder sang on his way home from his holiday on the Costa Blanca in 1972.

Today we left Spain, five weeks after we arrived, pasty-faced off the ferry. Thank you, Spain and Portugal we have really enjoyed our time, with you. We have been blown away by your mountains, your valleys, your forests, your beaches, your wildlife, your history and most of all your welcome. Sometime, we will return to do all the bits we couldn’t quite fit in this time.

On our way to the border this morning, we did a final supermarket shop and filled up with petrol to take advantage of Spain’s low prices. The only excitement as we crossed the border was, we misjudged our entry into the toll booth and Wendy had to climb out of the van window to retrieve the ticket for the autoroute.

Lac Biscarosse from the campsite entrance

Now we are in France, on the shores of Lac Biscarrosse, at Camping du Lac in the charming village of Ste. Eulalie. We are back in the land of the shower squeegee. We stayed in 18 campsites across Spain and Portugal and never once came across one of these handy tools in their showers. Last year, on our tour of Germany, Croatia, etc., every site had squeegees in their shower blocks. A quick wipe of the shower floor after your visit makes it all the more welcoming for the next customer. Come on Iberia, invest in the squeegee.

We have got this camping malarkey sorted now!

The temperature today is around the low 30s and the hottest yet, hotter even than Pinhão. It is perfect weather for a spot of sunbathing and swimming in the lake, and for that Camping du Lac is almost, but not quite, as good as Le Tedey. With a bit of luck, that is where we will be tomorrow!
